What a riveting story, and so beautifully crafted! We follow Cruz from his seemingly idyllic life on an island paradise to following his dream of going to a very selective school. We meet his friends, learn about his past, and peek into the potential his future could be. But all the while there's a deep mystery tied to his past, and he isn't even sure what that mystery may be!The story builds beautifully upon itself - very well paced and keeps you wanting to turn the page to find out what happens next. The only disappointment is that the sequel isn't out yet!

My great grandson is quite a reader. To encourage him, I buy him books, and, this one was a perfect for him. However, his Mom says he stayed up too late reading it because he didn’t want to put it down. It’s wonderful he wants to read and not have an iPad in front of him all the time; that he does makes his great grandmother so happy.

This is a great book. Just when you think you've reached the climax Trudi throws in another fact, or challenge that keeps you guessing. I am hosting a book club with this book and the kids are loving the book even with its challenging vocabulary. I added a Quizlet game to help them prepare for the challenging words. What I love most about this book is that it is helping the kids see new opportunities in education. They are excited about the different areas inside anthropology and conservation to name a few. It's sparking their imaginations with smart activities.

my kid saw this in Nat Geo kids magazine and begged for it so I ordered off here for one of their bday gift. I usually buy all our kids books off thriftbooks bc I like to upcycle and recycle! But this was a brand new publication! They Loved it and stayed up late to read it was so good.

I know this book is for young adults, but I'm 60 and I loved it just the same. I live in Hawaii so I was pleasantly surprised that it began there. It is beautifully researched and the characters are interesting and compelling. The story inspires us all to challenge ourselves outside of our comfort zones. Well done Trudi Trueit. I am proud to be your FB friend. Can't wait for the next one.

My 9-year old daughter loved this book. Here's her "review" in her own words: "The book is the best book I have ever read. The book is very gripping, and makes me sit on the edge of the seat. I especially like when Cruz’s team goes on missions. I like missions because they are thrilling and something unexpected happens. For example, when Bryndis said that she knew that Renshaw had hacked into Cruz’s iPad! My favorite mission was when the team went to the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve in Mexico. In the mission, I enjoyed when Sailor and Cruz fell from the waterfall and actually landed on the bean bags. Overall, the writing is very creative."

It's a great story and all. But it is VERY short for a $10 ebook. I get that this is a branded National Geographic thing, but if you really want to hit a wider audience you will price the book better. Paperback books of this size do not even cost $10.I would love to read more the series, but I'm not sure that I want to spend $40 on books that we will likely finish in 3 days.

My 10 year old son loved it. He is already a fan of most things National Geographic so he was very excited about their venture into fiction. It had really good illustrations and he enjoyed the story line. He is looking forward to the next one coming out next year.
