Brent Runyon a 14 year old boy in high school is gifted, but he doesn’t want to be. He wants to be normal or cool. He isn’t very compatible with the kids in his gifted class. He talks his parents into letting him go to a normal class. But things aren’t going great for him,”Now I’m getting F’s in a couple of classes.”(8). He is taunted by the fact that he could just end it all especially after he sets a P.E. shirt on fire in the locker room. Brent’s mom is kind and loves her son. When Brent tried to commit suicide it was a shock to her. No one else saw it coming either. The main conflict in the story is the internal conflict although a lot of external conflict is involved. After Brent sets himself on fire trying to commit suicide he suffers 3rd degree burns to 85% of his body. The main conflict is him trying to fit back into the world and find his place. He regrets his attempt and wishes he could just undo it all, he wishes he asked his parents for help. He wants anything other than his current condition. His family is now divided because of his attempt. Ironically he can’t live with himself for what he has done to his family. I thought this was a great book and would really recommend this to teenagers with a good level of maturity. This book discuss hard topics and pulls off adding humor every so often. Overall it was an exceptional book. I think the 3 main plots in the story: Brent lighting the shirt on fire, Brent’s suicide attempt, and Brent struggling to become apart of his family again are so nerve wracking. When reading these parts of the story it really puts you on the edge of your seat. So I highly encourage you to pick up this book and give it a try you won’t regret it.

The Burn Journals is a book about a 14 year-old high school student, Brent Runyon, who suffers throughout the book after his suicide attempt. His parents are very kindhearted and supportive toward Brent as well as their other son, Craig. After almost burning the school locker room when he lit a shirt on fire, he panics that he might get expelled and drenched himself with gasoline. He lit himself on fire almost taking his life. Brent suffered 3rd degree burns on 85% of his body and was in hospital care for many months. The main conflict in the story is Brent dealing with himself and trying to fit in with the world despite his unusual disability. Every day he prays that he could go back to his previous conditions, and would do anything to redo his actions. After leaving medical care, Brent has to go through many months in rehabilitation centers and live with his unattractive skin disorder. Through his countless amount of meetings with psychiatrists, he learns more about himself and understands the true meaning of life. I really enjoyed this book, mostly because it reminds me that we should never take anything for granted. Brent describes his inability to walk and lift his arms above his shoulders. These simple tasks are very effortless but for people like Brent, it isn’t. He also describes his every day massages as, “sluggish” and, “intolerable.” He also discusses his horrid body color and how unappealing he is as a teenager. I’d really recommend this book to any young adult with a good level of maturity. It hits hard topics and also adds in humor every so often. This book is definitely in my top 10 list. I highly encourage you to pick up this book, you won’t regret it.

My name is Corina and I am 14 years old. I just finished this book for some summer reading and here is my review. I feel that “The Burn Journals” does appeal to its audience (teenagers). The book may touch on some subjects that are considered inappropriate, but mature readers will understand what the book is really about.I consider the reading level for this book to be easy. There aren’t many “big” words in this book, and it’s fairly easy to understand. It’s easy to understand since the book was written from the perspective of a teenager. I’m 14 and read at a 12th grade level, so those who read at a lower level may not find it as easy to understand as those who read at a high level.I think that the author’s purpose for writing this book was for him to say that life is precious. The book was his way of telling people not to harm themselves. He wanted for people to know his story so that they wouldn’t follow his mistake. The author wanted people to understand what he and his loved ones went through because he hurt himself.I believe this book is written for teens around the ages of 13 through 18. It would appeal to a mature group of teenagers since the subject matter in this book is serious, but the author does add some humor to lessen the subject matter. It takes a certain level of maturity for the reader to enjoy and understand this book.As a caveat for readers, this book contains swear words, religious expressions, self-harm, suicide, and some sexual content. Multiple times in the book there are parts that discuss and contain this material.I gave this book four star because of how detailed it was. I would have given it five if it weren’t so repetitive. I did however like how the author added some humor in such a serious topic. The book may have had vulgar parts in it, but I enjoyed the story.

This book was very well written. Its a real page turner. Its pretty short so I finished it pretty fast. It was a little graphic at times which I thoroughly enjoyed but some others may be a little put off by this. I mean, it is exactly that... a book about a boy who lit himself on fire. The aftermath and being able to be within his internal thoughts was the best. I couldn't help but relate to him. It was a just a bad day that went much too far. I would have rated this book five stars but... I bought this book used from Amazon... which is fine... except for the part that they thought it was okay to sell me a library book. Why on earth they had a library book for sale is just beyond me. What did they get it for cheap at a library booksale and then resell it? That's just ridiculous.

Amazon.com Review

If you're curious about investing but have been too afraid to try, or if you've wondered about the hype surrounding online trading but were unsure how to plug in, It's Your Money is for you. In it, Christos Cotsakos--the man who put online trading on the map--leads you step-by-step into the brave new world of Internet trading. The book begins literally at the beginning, with criteria for buying a computer and selecting an Internet service provider, moves on through investment basics, and finally offers sophisticated strategies for analyzing individual stocks. Ever wondered what the NASDAQ was but didn't want to show your ignorance? Or day trading? Read on. In a clear, conversational style, Cotsakos answers all the key questions, from what growth stocks are, to why bonds are really not boring, to the difference between front-end and rear-end loads (mutual funds, that is). Once you've grasped the basics, you're on your way to opening your own Internet trading account. The beauty of managing and investing money online is that you can be your own "professional fund manager" (which gives you more power over your money--the author's primary goal here). Cotsakos explains how to research investment opportunities using the World Wide Web, and how to analyze and interpret what you've found in order to meet your own goals. He shows how to take advantage of such online perks as portfolio tracking and computer alerts for important changes in particular investments. And he introduces advanced topics for the braveheart investor--IPOs, day trading, and extended-hours trading. The Cotsakos approach is nevertheless a prudent one. The emphasis is on using the computer's analytical tools to create a well-conceived financial plan, rather than on simply learning how to ride the helter-skelter world of day trading, for example. As a primer for investing online, this book is a great resource. Be forewarned, however: Cotsakos does take every opportunity to mention his own financial-services company, E*Trade. There are others out there, so take a leaf out of his own book and do your research--online, of course--before you sign up. --Lesley Reed

From Publishers Weekly

From buying a computer, learning how to use it and selecting an Internet service provider, to signing up for an online trading account, setting up short- and long-term financial plans, learning about bonds, stocks, futures, options, mutual funds and other investments, this is a whirlwind guide in 128 pages. To cover such vast territory in a breezy, easy-to-read manner, Cotsakos sacrifices explanations and theory. For example, he instructs the reader to take the book to a local computer retailer and show the salesperson his specifications for a computer system. The option chapter lists the terms you need to know to understand options, but does not define them, nor does it deal with how options are priced or traded. It does, however, give detailed instructions on how to fill out E*Trade's option order entry screen. There are some obvious problems with this approach. It teaches how to trade aggressively, without imparting the knowledge necessary to trade intelligently. As computer technology advances and E*Trade redesigns its screens, the book will quickly fall out of date. However, it will still be useful to those who already know most of what's in it, but want an accessible, comprehensive guide to fill in the gaps. 4-city author; 15-city NPR campaign. We were Paratroopers together with the 2nd Brigade Infantry of the 101st, Airborne Div. We were Screaming Eagles. We were in the states together, and went to the Nam together. We were in the same Company, we went thru the Tetoffensive together. We lost so many people, our friends and fellow soldiers, that they took our unit off of jump status, because we did not have enough qualified sky soldiers. Chris was an excellent field trooper, wounded and decoratedfor bravery.Besides being a hero and a solid citizen, he is very smart. I am very proud to call Christos my friend.

As others have stated the book is little more than a 200 page advertisement for e-trade.I read the book because I know very little about investing in the stock market and I would like to learn.Even as god awful new to the stock market I am, I learned almost nothing from the book. Many of his descriptions of the way things are "Why do companies go public?" were oversimplified to the point of being wrong.I went into the book with a bunch of questions and left will all of the same questions. At best the only thing the book does is convince you to invest money in the stock market through E-trade.If you are going to trade online, the $13 per trade commission E-Trade charges you is much higher than the $7/trade rate offered by Scottrade, or the $10/trade Ameritrade offers but you won't find that in the book.If you want to learn about the stock market, I would recommend instead Jim Cramer's 'Mad Money' or 'Sane Investing in an Insane World'.If you managed to make it here to read this review then it is a fair bet you already know everything 'It's Your Money' has to say. The book is really that worthless.

Thanks for telling me how to configure a 56k connection. Now get yourself to a middle school and learn what the internet is, buddy. Until then, pull this fossil of a book from stores...

This is the first book of online investing I read. It is an older book but it is the Best first book to read before you risk your own money in the market. It is a great step-by-step guide that explains the different kind of trades. You can skip the first few chapters as they're related to setting up your computer and to access the internet.

i love this product , good work guys

I guess some applies but if your new to self guided investments consider how market dynamics have changed dramatically since this book was written .Also E*Trade has a new CEO -Still some good basic knowledge for short money & it makes a good bathroom reader for guests

Didn't know anything about online trading. This book explains it as described "step by step". Also got it at a great price.

For the price, this book is a great start for the starter investor. Although, it's outdated it is great knowledge. I received the package in a few days and the book was in great shape.

The Toronto StarMay 4, 1991, SaturdayA saga of tawdry double dealingBy Paul William RobertsUnholy Babylon: The Secret History of Saddam's WarBy Adel Darwish and Gregory Alexander....ANYONE PUZZLED by President George Bush's hypocritical actions during the period immediately following his order reining in Desert Storm's dogs of war will be terminally confounded by Adel Darwish and Gregory Alexander's meticulously- researched saga of the tawdry double-dealing strewn along the road leading to this confrontation with Saddam Hussein.Back when he was CIA director, Bush was personally responsible for the mass slaughter of Kurds by the Baghdad regime, having urged them to revolt, armed them, then failed to provide any backup. Now, as President, he's betrayed them again, and in much the same way, standing in the ditch he calls high moral ground while Iraqi helicopter-gunships and troops butcher countless thousands of men, women and children. If this is "an Iraqi internal affair" in Washington's eyes, then so was the Nazi holocaust. With 200,000 or so troops still within Iraqi borders, Bush apparently sees nothing wrong with upholding Saddam's sovereign right to slaughter any religious or ethnic faction he feels inclined to. Why?Unholy Babylon provides answers to this and numerous other tricky questions, raising still trickier questions in the process. Darwish is one of the most respected and authoritative investigative reporters covering Middle East affairs. Egyptian by birth, he currently corresponds for The Independent, which consistently provided critical commentary of the war while most Western media waved the Stars and Stripes like hapless vassals. His co-author, "Gregory Alexander," is regarded by those who are aware of his actual identity as one of the two or three supreme experts on international arms trading. He employs a pseudonym and lives in conditions that make Salman Rushdie's arrangements seem positively freewheeling. I'm betraying no confidence by saying he was once a British army officer serving in the Middle East, and then actually worked in the international arms industry for several years before conscience called.Although people like Judith Miller (Saddam Hussein And The Crisis In The Gulf) and Samir al-Khalil (Republic Of Fear) have done yeoman's work covering similar territory, Darwish and Alexander, besides having access to stratospherically high-level source material, manage a level of concision and readability that makes coherent sense of close to a century's worth of history, much of it deliberately obfuscated, partially erased, or hopelessly tangled to protect the guilty. Who the guilty actually are is Unholy Babylon's main theme. The book confirms that Iraq's plot to annex Kuwait was made known to most Arab leaders by February, 1990. Both the CIA and the Egyptian intelligence service warned their respective governments repeatedly, stating unequivocally by late September that Saddam's troops would definitely be moving across the border within days. Presidents Bush and Egypt's Hosni Mubarak chose to ignore these warnings. Why?Reading this chilling and repulsive tale of big politics and even bigger business, you find yourself yodelling why? every 10 minutes. Why, for example, didn't we see much evidence of the $ 50 billion or so in high-tech arms sold by the U.S. to Saudi Arabia over the last few years? Why was America aligning itself with countries that had human rights records at least as bad as those of Saddam's Ba'athist regime they were conscripted to topple? And why did Bush encourage Iraqi Kurds and Shiites to embark on a civil war if he had no intention of supporting them - particularly since he'd stopped Stormin' Norman from trashing Saddam's war machine when the opportunity was available, and thus knew full well the rebels did not stand a chance against the kind of punch Baghdad could still deploy against them? The truth is - as Unholy Babylon makes abundantly clear - that Washington prefers Saddam, the monster it made, and a Ba'athist reign of terror in Iraq to the prospect of a Kurdistan which could end up controlling the world's second largest oilfields, and a Shiite state in southern Iraq that would inevitably find itself a satellite of fundamentalist Iran. America's fear of Iran, the authors reveal, is indeed so great it must be considered the major factor in the decade-long cultivation of Saddam Hussein's regime - a cultivation that paralleled the lavish U.S. cossetting of the Shah's Iran, entailing techno-military assistance of the first order, including hands-on involvement by numerous American allies in the construction of weapons facilities more advanced than any outside North America or NATO. They became Desert Storm's first targets.Besides naked greed and the mega-politics of oil, the only thing approaching reasons and answers this book offers is the suggestion that U.S. foreign policy has more to do with chaos and instability than it does with putting order in the "new world order." As long as the U.S. is creating the chaos, it can operate within it quite happily and much more easily than it could within, say, a truly democratic Middle East.Darwish and Alexander make no comment on the diabolical facts they began assembling even before August 2, 1990 but I'd like to meet the reader who does not finish Unholy Babylon with a sizzling sense of rage, despair and abject frustration aimed at those we have allowed to govern the allegedly-free world and who have abused that privilege by licensing a wrecking-crew to exploit and enslave the wretched of the Earth.---Toronto Star NewspapersJuly 6, 1991 SaturdayAuthors examine the effects of international greedUnholy Babylon presents a detailed account of the world's financing of Iraq's military machine and the history of events that led to the invasion of Kuwait and the diplomatic posturing prior to the Persian Gulf War.Authors Adel Darwish and Gregory Alexander display a sophisticated knowledge of Arab politics and history and the ruthless practices of the international arms trade. They combine extensive research with broad contacts and experience, giving Unholy Babylon an authority and depth that is both fascinating and chilling.Darwish and Alexander contend that world leaders ignored warning signals, bungled messages and recklessly pursued their own short-sighted goals in the years and months that led up to Iraq's invasion of Kuwait. Again and again, they missed opportunities to curb Saddam Hussein's belligerence, even as Iraqi tanks rolled south towards Kuwait.Furthermore, leaders of the East and West share the blame for helping create Saddam Hussein's mighty war machine.Generous loans and financing from foreign governments and banks allowed Iraq to spend between $80 and $105 billion on armaments from 1980-90. During the mid 1980s, Iraq became the world's leading importer of arms. Even after the end of its war with Iran, Iraq continued to pump billions of dollars a year into weapons of mass destruction.A few diplomats and intelligence officials raised murmurs of alarm, but these invariably were side-stepped by businesses and ministries of trade and commerce who were anxious to sell military wares to virtually any nation willing to buy. Effective embargoes were few.The effects of international greed were compounded by anxious government and military leaders who were willing to do almost anything to stop the rise of Islamic fundamentalism. Better Saddam Hussein than the Ayatollah Khomeini, they reasoned. Saddam was pleased to take all the armaments they could offer.Unholy Babylon makes clear that despite official government policy, most nations are prepared to turn a blind eye when arms sales boost local employment and stimulate the GNP.As U.S. President George Bush trumpets a new policy of international arms control without controlling arms, the world seems to have learned little. Saddam Hussein is bloodied but unbowed. Billions of dollars worth of armaments continue to flow to the Middle East.--Hamilton Spectator (Ontario, Canada)December 4, 1991 Wednesday...Readers bemused by the peaceniks' vitriolic attacks upon the Americans for the victory over Iraq will find Unholy Babylon most enlightening.Written by two respected experts on the Middle East, Adel Darwish and Gregory Alexander, the book is sub-titled 'The Secret History of Saddam's War' and reveals much background material not generally known in North America, including Western bungling which allowed Saddam to invade Kuwait with impunity.Meaty and detailed, yet readily understandable, the book will repay study by anyone wanting more than he finds in the media to understand the Gulf War.--The NationMarch 29, 2004... Adel Darwish and Gregory Alexander in their 1991 book, Unholy Babylon, [reported] that Washington was extremely alarmed by Qassim and the Communists, and therefore wooed the Baath Party as an alternative. When the Baath briefly came to power in 1963, the CIA passed to Saddam Hussein, probably an agency asset, a list of hundreds of Iraqi Communists, whom the new regime liquidated. The Baath was in the wilderness when the coup collapsed, but came back to stay in 1968. Again, Darwish and Alexander report assertions of US backing for the 1968 coup, confirmed to me by other journalists who have talked to retired CIA and State Department officials.

Unholy Babylon is the detailed chronicle of the creation of a monster - Saddam Hussein - aided and abetted by the United States and other western powers. The US needed Saddam, in their estimation, to counter the Iranian threat. The US and European countries were willing to tolerate and to support internal totalitarianism and terror, suppression of dissent by force, gas warfare and other war crimes against internal enemies and Iran, as long as Saddam would fight the Iranian menace. The British looked the other way as Saddam murdered dissenters on their soil. Everyone looked away as virtually every country in Europe, plus the US and Canada, lined up to supply Saddam Hussein with long range rockets and essential atomic bomb technology.Adel Darwish is eminently qualified for the job of investigating Saddam's empire, having been a veteran foreign correspondent in Iraq before he was thrown out for reporting a major missile testing mis-hap and thus revealing Saddam's secret missile development program. The hard cover edition of Unholy Babylon has been updated and corrected and is probably well worth the extra investment.Read this book to understand what is happening now. It has been the source book (sometimes not acknowledged) for several "informed analyses."...

I noticed all the good reviews and publicity surrounding ORPHAN TRAIN when the book was first published a few years ago. I had ORPHAN TRAIN on my To Be Read list but never got around to reading the novel. I knew the book was based on true stories of children shipped across America in the early part of the last century. When I saw the book was available for review, I signed up pronto, wondering why the publisher was sending it on tour again years later.I learned on the very first page entitled “Dear Reader” that Christina Baker Kline decided to revamp the book (or a certain situation in the book) slightly due to reader feedback. As she says, she “would have the chance to fix small errors, update factual information, clarify and sharpen the language in places, and – most important – add a scene that I’ve long regretted not including.” Ms. Kline even mentioned Hemingway’s Iceberg Theory in her letter to the reader. The book was definitely a “could not put down” experience for me. I read it over the course of three days only because I had events to attend over a weekend or I probably would have finished it half that time.ORPHAN TRAIN was a mix of favorite childhood books of mine such as ANNE OF GREEN GABLES, HEIDI, and UNDERSTOOD BETSY, and Ms. Kline used the L.M. Montgomery Anne book in her story. Niamh (pronounced Neev) was an Irish immigrant girl sent on an orphan train from New York City to Minnesota in the late 1920s. At the same time, the book is the 2011 story of Molly, a high-school teen getting ready to age out of foster care in New England. Niahm, changed to Dorothy and then to Vivian, and Molly meet unexpectedly when Molly is tasked with helping 91-year-old Vivian clean out her attic to get in community service hours for stealing a library book. This situation proved to be cathartic and affirming for both Molly and Vivian.I thought Ms. Kline presented a wonderful story of historical fiction using flashbacks of Vivian’s life intertwined with a believable foster child in today’s system. At the end of the new version, an author interview and reading group guide are presented, as well as a short history on the orphan trains.ORPHAN TRAIN is now a personal favorite and one of my most highly recommended book I have reviewed.

This historical novel was well written as the author describes the journeys of many orphaned children in New York City that were sent by train to other states for adoption and the horrific processes these children experienced during the earliest adoption runs. This book was an eye opener for me because I didn't know anything about this happening until reading this book. The author also published the names of these children and the families who adopted them in the counties surrounding where I now live. This list provides people with the ability to track their ancestry if they were related to these orphaned children. The story really touched my heart.

I am an 8th grade girl who read this book as an independent reading assignment. I loved the book and the messages it leaves. The book begins with Molly, an orphan girl in 2011 living in a foster home. Her foster mother is upset with her but they soon overcome it. Next, we meet Vivian, a nine-year-old Irish girl in the 1930's who goes by Niamh and must board the orphan train. In the present day, Molly and Vivian meet in the present day, when she is 91. Molly needs community service hours because she's been caught stealing a book from the library. Vivian's attic is full of stuff and Molly's job is to help clean it out. This sets the stage for the interweaving of two tales: Vivian's difficult past as an orphan and Molly's present as a foster child. We then see their stories unfold throughout the book.Orphan Train is a wonderful novel filled with comparisons of Molly and Vivian. Vivian's story is the subject of the book, the Orphan Train. She had emigrated from Ireland with her family as a young girl. At age nine her family was killed in a tenement fire. She, along with hundreds of other orphans was put on a train headed to Minnesota where, it was hoped they would find people to adopt them. Both are moved many times from home to home and Vivian, though her troubles are more extreme, relates to Molly and they form a friendship that crosses generations.Vivian was first taken home by a family who only wanted free labor. They would lock the refrigerator, make her sleep in the hallway, and wouldn't let her use the indoor restroom. It went from bad to worse. The next family was extremely poor, with many kids, whom Vivian was expected to take care of. None of the parents worked and the dad would hunt squirrels for the family to eat. All of the children shared a room and the mother was very rude to her. Thanks to her kind teacher at school, who took pity on Vivian, she was rescued and her life began to improve dramatically. Vivian found a happy home and a family that adopted her and gave her the name Vivian, after their daughter who had died. She ends up having a good life.Molly's life is hard but not as hard as Vivian's. Even though her foster parents don't love her and make her eat meat when she is a vegetarian, she isn't treated like slave labor. Learning of Vivian's harsh childhood gives her perspective on her own life and hope for a better future. Throughout the book, the two women bond and learn from each other. This is a great historical fiction novel. The only thing I disliked about this book is that it is based on real events in America's history. I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone looking for a heart-warming tale.

Though I am not a "dummy" when it comes to digital photography, I have quite enjoyed several "...for Dummies" books for the simple reason that they are packed with information, in an easy to read format. "Digital Wedding Photography for Dummies" is no exception. In terms of wedding photography, I am not a pro, but have shot at weddings for friends and relatives as a back-up to their hired pro and captured, from comments I have received, some excellent shots (even back in the day with my trusty point-and-shoot, before I got into DSLR). Now I am toying with the idea of going pro and wanted to gain more perspective from people who are doing it. Author/Photographer Amber Murphy does a very good job in formatting the book and its contents. As she says up front, you may not need to read all of it, just what you need to know at the time. That said, she starts off with the basics (like getting to know the future bride and groom to your gear selection) and guides you through what can be a stressful event if you are not fully prepared (like having extra battery packs with you, "just in case"). Covering topics such as various photographic styles, lighting, even editing photos after the event and how to present them to the couple is done with care and pretty good style. Again, easy to understand and follow throughout. Murphy finishes the book with creating a business plan, covering some of the legal basics and explaining various ways to grow your business which are logical and straightforward, however, being recently published it covers more areas than some, possibly even better - but older - wedding how-to books, making it more relevant to the times.More advanced photographers may find redundant or already well-known information in this book (such as exposure, shutter speed, lighting), but there may also be a few morsels that are new. That, to me, makes these Dummies books particularly worthwhile. The shots she included in the book are not what I would call fantastic, but most were very good and I am sure the couples loved them. I did anticipate that there would be some more artistic type of shots, as well as a better variety of twilight and night time outdoors shots. Overall, Murphy did a good job with this book and it looks like I may just enter this field.

This is really worth the money... if you are an amateur or enthusiast and are planning on informally shooting a wedding for a friend or family member, this is for you. And it is well above the "Dummies" level (never liked the name anyway). It is a good starting point to get you prepared to produce a worthy product, not a professional one but a very good one. You can move on to more complex books from here but, honestly, I would read this one first. It will probably be all you need unless you intend on going pro.

This book is written by someone with much experience in the wedding photography industry. The author explains how cameras work and what the functions do, and then spends the rest of the book explaining how the photographer's job is to tell the story of the wedding. She lists the different types of pictures you need to take (groom, groom with best man, groom with family, etc.) and also explains how to start a photography business. I bought this book knowing nothing about the topic but now feel much more comfortable when my own business takes off.

A friend told me this book was coming out several months ago, and I was definitely looking forward to its release. Once I received it in the mail, the first thing I did was thumb through just looking at the beautiful photos! Once I was through drooling over those, I started reading. I love the writing and formatting style of the Dummies books - so clear, helpful, and it just MAKES SENSE. Amber Murphy did a great job of communicating the information in an interesting way, complete with lots of examples of what to do as well as what NOT to do. As I was reading, I found myself asking questions, "What does that mean? What about _______? How do you ________?" etc. Each and every question was answered as I progressed in my reading. It's a thorough (but easy) and fun read! I recommend checking it out! It's a complete guide to help you get started with your own business, or even just taking better photos for your personal use.

Really good, gets you through basics. My husband and I read it on Kindle in the car while the other was driving.

Great book for the beginner in wedding photography......helped me with the basics and highly recommend it to the beginner in everyone!

Always a smart idea to stay refreshed and learn different techniques or ideas from any photography book

I've shot many weddings and I still found some useful tips in this book.

Fundamental Snowboarding (Fundamental Sports), by Jon Lurie

From School Library Journal

Grade 4-8?Colorful photographs highlight these two books that provide an introduction to the sport. Beginning Snowboarding is an adaptation of Lurie's title. The fairly minor changes include a different cover photograph, larger typeface, and some editing that lowers the reading level a grade or two. The layout, photographs, and basic content are virtually identical. Readers learn about the equipment, basic maneuvers, types of competitions, and more advanced stunts. Practice techniques and conditioning routines are also explained. While the writing style is quite mundane, the information is solid, and the clear photographs are eye-catching. The two books are so similar that one or the other would suffice in most cases. Larry Brimner's Snowboarding (Watts, 1989; o.p.) contains much of the same material but has fewer photos. Robert Guthrie's Hotdogging and Snowboarding (Capstone, 1992; o.p.) is for a younger audience.Copyright 1996 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Everyone ought to examine the question, Does God exist? The next question to ask is, Why do you believe God exists or why do you believe God doesn't exist? Chapter after chapter, this book has impressive information on proving that God does exist; this book also has incredible information on proving that it is absurd to conclude that God does not exist. Creation screams out the existence of an Intelligent Designer by the powerful and eternal Lord God Almighty. The belief that creation came from something is simply a rational conclusion. After reading this book, Atheists will come to realize that there are many reasons to believe that God exists; atheists will also come to realize that there are many reasons to reject a disbelief in God. When a person is honest and truly examines creation with rational thinking, the most logical conclusion is to say that an eternal God is the Creator. Once a person searches out the reliability of the Holy Bible, both the Old Testament and the New Testament, as well examine the life of Jesus Christ from the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, it will be discovered that people can get to know more about the eternal God and even have a personal relationship with Him through the power of the Holy Spirit. Most of this book has information to equip a person to engage in a meaningful discussion about whether or not God exists. This book presents excellent rationality by examining historical records and the credibility of historical records. This book also provides simple analogies such as, There is (no) gold in Alaska. It is possible for a person to read this book and still walk away disbelieving that God exists, but it is equally ridiculous to walk away and conclude that Mars doesn't exist. Most people will say that Mars does exist. Some people read about Mars. Some people have seen pictures of Mars. Some people don't care about Mars. But for anyone to say that Mars doesn't exist, it would simply be absurd. The wise reader will correctly conclude, based on evidence and rational thinking, that God exists, the Holy Bible is reliable, and Jesus Christ reflects the very character of God himself.

One of the most practical and understandable book on such an important and complex topic. This subject could have been much harder to study, but Dr. Sproul explains things in a way that a non-professional can make sense of it. He uses the jargon because it is important to be able to stand toe-to-toe with the atheist and agnostic but he does not do so pretentiously or arrogantly. He accepts with grace that he has been formally trained and that others are capable of dealing with the knowledge if put in an accessible fashion.

R.C. Sproul does a fantastic job of offering a very deep topic, such as philosophy and apologetics, at a lay-persons level. Not to say that it is without its deep points where necessary, but rather, this isn't an exhaustive approach to apologetics. I offer four stars as there were points that I felt could have been stated more clearly or should have been dealt with a little more thoroughly. Also, considering the depth and breadth of the topic he attempts to cover, a quality summary at the end of each chapter might have helped the reader recall the discussion and possibly clarified the authors approach.

I listened to this audiobook. It was a very clear and stimulating rendition of a challenging subject. I ain to buy the print version and use it as a resource. Our faith makes sense and we do not need to be intimidated by fast-talking atheists but we do need to communicate what and why we believe. This book will help you do that in a calm, reasonable way.

I enjoy R.C. Sproul, but I think he sometimes forgets the audience reading his books, although the information was incredible, it should probably be explained in simpler terms the average reader might need examples of what he is discussing.Just need it to be easier fr the average man to apply and learn, because it has great information, just not user friendly.

Sproul explains many of the philosophies, and errors in logic, that are prominent today. He applies these to errors in attacking Christianity. He is intelligent and non-confrontational. If you want to know more about defending Christianity, this is a good introductory book.

WARNING. I ordered the kindle version and was offered a discount to purchase Kindle and audio at the same time. I never received the audio and had to purchase it for full price. But R.C's book is worth the money and so much more. I'll just be more careful when Amazon offers me a bargain.
