I did not buy this tome, thankfully, but I have read through it. It peddles the pseudoscientific view that one's sexual orientation can be voluntarily changed.The ineffability of sexual orientation is not a moral argument, but a scientific one. What we are sexually aroused by is a product of our biology, not our upbringing.There's really one way for parents to "prevent" homosexuality: Don't reproduce, because if you, you always roll the dice that your offspring might end up with same-sex attraction. This is beyond your control, and it is beyond their control.

Why give parents hope for the impossible. How cruel to mess with a child's head. Provide love and understanding. Acceptance!

Most helpful book I have read in a long time. It has healthy, actionable steps. For the people who wrote negative reviews, they should read the book first. How is it destructive to encourage male fatherly bonding for a prehomosexual boy? This is a priceless book for parents who do no want to see their son become gay and have a much higher chance of depression, suicide and AIDS and HIV.

I tried going into this with an open mind and I read through the free sample. I feel this book just encourages homophobic behavior. There have been scientific findings that conclude homosexuality is genetic, how does this author explain homosexuality within the animal kingdom, or other sexual anomalies such as hermaphrodites?As other commenters have pointed out, this is only going to lead to depression and suicide among lgbt youth. By all means if an adult gay man wants to try to convert then they can seek this guy out. But parents really need to let their kids figure out their sexuality by themselves. And sexuality is only a small portion of life but it is a personal and defining part to every individuals life, so why obsess about it to your children?? If you parents really want your kids to be happy and healthy just spend time with them. But if dad still plays ball with little Johnny and little Johnny still turns out gay, just accept it and be happy if he finds a husband who makes him happy and respects him, it's better than being in an abusive heterosexual relationship any day.

Couples, here's the best advice I can give you: abstinence, abstinence, abstinence.You learned it in school. It's the only 100% effective way to prevent STDs, STIs, and unwanted pregnancies, right? That's what they told you. So guess what? It's also the ONLY way to make sure you don't have a gay son or daughter. So please, please, PLEASE heed my advice: if you're REALLY worried about having a gay kid, PRACTICE ABSTINENCE.

For those who believe in heterosexual relations as part of nature, we should use this book to educate our families.

About the Author

Scott Augenbaum became the “cyber guy” in the FBI’s field office in Syracuse, New York, working almost exclusively on computer crime cases. In 1998, the FBI made its first attempt to establish a national cyber strategy to combat online crimes and mandated each of its 56 field offices dedicate one agent to computer crime investigations.  In October 2003, Augenbaum was promoted to supervisory special agent at FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C., which provided him with a national perspective on the growing threat of computer crimes. He was assigned to the Cyber Division, Cyber Crime Fraud Unit andwas responsible for managing the FBI’s Cyber Task Force Program and IntellectualProperty Rights Program. In 2006, Augenbaum was promoted to supervisory agent in the FBI Memphis Division, where he helped launch the FBI’s first local Computer Intrusion/Counterintelligence squad. During the last ten years of Augenbaum’s FBI career, he provided more than one thousand cybercrime threat briefings to corporations and other public groups with the goal of educating the community on emerging computer intrusion threats and how to avoid becoming the victim of a data breach. Augenbaum retired from the FBI in January 2018. He lives with his wife and children in Nashville, Tennessee, where he recently launched Hero Publishing, a company devoted to educating the public about the dangers of cybercrimes.

I feel like I had been living with my doors unlocked, myself unarmed, and a sign on my lawn that read “Intruders Are Welcomed.”Augenbaum’s Secret to Cybersecurity acts as an alarm system for online-goers, by preventing cybercrime with a common sense plan that really does work.The stories he shares about his time as an FBI Special Agent, intertwined with mind-blowing cyber facts, makes it an easy read for teenagers, employees at Fortune 500 companies, small business owners, and my 91-year-old grandma. She now forwards me her spam emails with the headline “Cybercriminals I See You.” I now know who I get my knack for comedic relief from. Thanks Grams.Chapter-by-chapter, I found myself suspiciously staring at emails, eye-browing the validity of certain websites, and creating passphrases that were criminal-proof. A simple plan to protect you and your family from cybercrime. Scott’s book subtitle sums up the content of this quick read perfectly. Being in the security industry for close to a decade, and having known Scott for over 5 years and hearing him speak dozens of times, I wasn’t convinced I would gain much from reading his new book. I received an advanced copy in December 2018 and dove in. The 18 chapters of the book cover a wide range of cybercrime and cybersecurity hygiene topics from phishing, two-factor authentication, strong passwords, business email compromise, and many more. Each chapter concludes with a cheat-sheet bulleted list of steps so readers do not become the next victim of cybercrime. I was pleasantly surprised by the breadth of information provided while at the same time keeping it easy to digest and apply for students, adults, parents, and seniors. Chapter 7 on strong password techniques was an eye-opener for me! As Scott says, 90% of cybercrime can be prevented by following the basics, and this book provides the framework for anyone to implement these basics personally and professionally. Go buy this book now for yourself, friends, family, and colleagues!

You do not have to be a technologist to get enormous value from this book as Scott innately communicates these complex issues in such a way that any one can understand. If you are serious about keeping your children, family, or business safe in today's technology environment-- I could not recommend this book more. It is like hitting the re-set button when my computer is bogged down . . .I re-boot and feel clearer . . . I read his previous book,The Sound of Silence this way for a couple years before this title showed up in print. Same message, but it has been helpful to have some different words to allow the message to reach my . . . heart/soul/ whatever you choose to call it.I will say, as a final note that with him having been a Peace Corps Volunteer before he studied in the Thai Forests, it seems like he can understand and work with the default settings that might be in my way. Also, I like that these are TALKS spoken to retreatants not deeply, metaphysical WRITINGS that occurred while he was alone with his laptop. Something about the spoken word works for me, less academic and more relational.He and Pema Chodron have been wonderful guides for this former Midwestern altar boy who has been exploring a different spiritual path for the past decade. They both shine the light in front of you . . .so you can start to discover your own path and learn from YOUR OWN EXPERIENCES . . . as the Buddha encouraged his followers to do. Plenty of rocks to trip over in the dark and strange voices in the woods, but never boring. As Mary Oliver likes to say: "Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?"

It has been my habit for the past 25 years to read a few pages of a spiritual book before sleep. As meditation practice has grown in the west the quality of the writing has become more incisive and direct. This is needed because people want to romanticize meditation as a way to enter a transcendent space beyond human suffering.Ajahn Sumedho has been informed by his life as a Buddhist monk and, perhaps even more importantly, his observations of Thai culture. He notes that Western students are idealistic, striving for perfection by subjecting themselves to harsh discipline and self criticism. Thai culture is much more accepting of human weakness. He encourages the reader to practice meditation in a very relaxed way. When we don't strive for an idealized state of enlightenment we are more likely to notice a natural nonverbal awareness that allows us to gracefully experience the full range of human emotion.This book really resonates with my personal experience. tells us we just aren't noticing it. He states the simple truth quite simply.

This is one of the best best books in Buddhism that I have read.It is simple, and Sumedho encourages intuitive awareness, which is something we can find in ourselves.He shared his experience, his observations and journey from a lay person to, novice monk, and abbot.In my opinion, the best take away in the book, is : To reach the deathless, the conditionless, nirvana, we actually do not need any conditions. People are attached to conditions (such as quietness) to have peace. But do we really need conditions to reach the conditionless?We often hear the core teaching "impermanence, suffering and no-self" and imposed them on our experience without wisdom, without understanding. This is an open door to Buddhism. Sumedhho is a gifted explainer who makes even the complicated understandable. He is concrete, specific and pragmatic and offers a view of Buddhism not as something just to read about and puzzle about but as a set of beneficial practices to bring into daily life. His focus is on the most immediate and accessible aspects of human experience. He doesn't ask the reader to have faith in texts or the experiences of historical figures or acclaimed contemporary leaders. He invites the reader to simply do these things with openness and persistence and see what happens. Less suffering? Yes or no.

The 1st time I read Ajahn Sumedho's "Don't Take your Life..." I liked it, but felt it could've/should've been edited. Two months later, I've picked it up again, and am now approaching the end of my 2nd time to read it from cover to cover: What changed? me. I could see my games better when I went back to this book. Thank goodness for Sumedho's bare-bones honesty about the workings of his own mind and thanks for his main meditation instruction: "Be with what's happening, now." (But do so kindly, without effort, etc.) The classical sutras/scriptures in Tibetan Buddhism don't address the Western mind and our low-self esteem issues (no matter if that comes out by our being highly competitively, depressed and/or everything in the middle.) That's because beating up on one's self historically wasn't part of the Tibetan's world view. Sumedho's book integrates observing yourself/your thoughts and every day life in a way you might find helpful, no matter if you're a Buddhist or not.

I purchased this textbook 4-5 years ago and it is still a helpful reference guide. I used it in interior design school and I now keep it with me at work for reference.

Just exactly the book my daughter needed for one of her interior design classes at Ball State. And for a lot better price than she could find it other places.

Much better condition than expected and the price was good! Great resource for expanding your knowledge and learning more about interior design concepts, including standard dimensions for almost anything you may need.

Please note that this is the STUDENT EDITION of the Interior Graphic Standards. It does not say this clearly on the product title/link. It is a very basic overview of interior construction topics. Please Amazon - fix this in the product title/link. It makes a difference.

If I had to keep but one reference book on my shelf as a Professional Interior Designer, this would be the book. It contains in-depth and well-formatted information on virtually every subject in the field, and the graphics are outstanding. One of the authors, Maryrose McGowan, is a powerhouse and has done a remarkable job with this guide and I hope she comes out with many other useful books to advance the profession. This book has quickly replaced several books I previously owned that attempted to do what this book has done with great simplicity, completeness, and accuracy.The chapters are well-organized, the graphics are abundant, clear, and easy-to-understand, and they contain information from all ends of the spectrum. The price tag of the book is steep, but well worth the investment. Save your pennies and make a point of buying this book, or look for used versions as they come available on Amazon.com. You will be glad to have this book in your collection!

I already own AIA's Architectural Graphics Standards for Residential Construction, which is an excellent reference book for use in designing, planning, and building a new house or remodeling an existing one. Wanting more information for interior design of a house, I reviewed a copy of this book at the library. The book is primarily targeted to those persons doing interior design work on commercial projects. If you're looking for interior design help for a house, I would recommend buying AIA's Architectural Graphics Standards for Residential Construction to use as a reference and look for other books targeted specifically at residential interior design.

Interior Graphic Standards is a comprehensive reference tool which covers all aspects of commercial interiors projects. The information is presented in a clear, concise manner, and is organized for easy reference. The book focuses on interior architecture as well as interior design, providing detailed information for programming/schematic design through construction phases.The construction details and associated text provide credible options for the integration of construction and finish materials into interior spaces. The notes and sidebar comments add valuable information to the images and tables.IGS covers many topics not typically included in interiors reference books. I really enjoyed the author's first book, Nefertitis Heart! That being said this sequel leaves a lot to be desired. I truly enjoyed the romance in the first book, but now that they have "done the dirty", it seems that this book is 95% sex and 5% storyline! Not to mention it does get more graphic! Personally, I love certain sex scenes, when it is called for. However, it just seems whenever these two characters are in the same room/vicinity/area, they go at like dogs in heat! Not only that , but even their conversation goes that way! I mean, c'mon! I thought Cara was going to be a really tough lead character, and now she's so obsessed with Nate, it is really ridiculous! For being a rape survivor, she sure gave up herself fairly quickly! I know--it's fiction- but c'mon! Sorry, I can't read this series anymore. Seems like another excuse to write about mind blowing sex (every time!) and not much else.

The relationship between Cara and Nate just gets better in this second book. I really love these two, and though Nate's secret caused a rift, it was a great read learning about the when and why of it and his feelings for Cara. I laughed more than once at the constant, not-so-subtle, interest Nate's friend Hawke had for Cara, though he changed his tune in the last part of the book--for good reason! The plot, characters--big and small--the steampunk twist on Queen Victoria's England, the adventures...well, I just couldn't stop reading until I'd finished. Can't wait for #3.

What a ride! Very well written, good character development and the descriptions truly paint clear and vivid pictures in my imagination. I enjoyed the twists and turns the story took me on. But, I'm getting tired of "heat coursing through her body at his touch." Is she a cat in heat or a strong independent woman who knows her own mind and has taken her future in her own hands in the past? Yes, because of the heart they do have an unbreakable connection, but maybe it should have been an organ lower in the body and not the heart. The Egyptians thought the heart was the seat of the intellect not of carnal desire. I'm looking forward to the next book (already on my Kindle), but hope the author has dialed back the thrusting and panting. It detracts from the story. I'm glad I can just keep tapping the Kindle to page forward and back to the story. I'm far from a prude, but I've never felt the heat of another person through a parka. No matter how attracted I was to them.It's worth your time to read and enjoy, the price is right. I loved the first book and am truly looking forward to starting the third. Well written, a fast read and great characters. You cheer for the good guys, truly hate the bad guys, have sympathy for those under the control of the collar and suffer with the characters that make the right decision, but at the ultimate cost. I love the twists on history, in this alternative world, while remaining true to the history we know.

A.W. Exley is officially one of my reread authors. You know, when you reread all the previous books in a series before starting the latest one? I love Cara, Nate and that rascal Loki. This time they journey to St. Petersburg, Russia in search of answers in Loki's airship. The action is non-stop and we learn more about the profound connection Cara and Nate have due to the artifact, Nefertiti's Heart.For the first time we get to see what is going on from Loki's point of view and hopefully there will be more in future books. I can hardly wait to see how A.W. Exley plans on tormenting him! I'm sure whatever he gets, he deserves. What a rascal.

A big step up after the initial book. This time around we get a far darker Artifact in play, one which is already found so to speak, the issue is more of what it actually does and how to get rid of it. Plus the tiny little problem of avoiding death via magical feedback (Thanks Nefertiti's Heart, that warning should have been in the manual!).Compared to the first book, we get much less romance much more steampunk mystery.

Another good book in the series. The characters have grown and the story line was full of mystery and myth. I love how the author brings in well known characters and entwines "real" events with fantasy. Married life for the Lyons are going to be great. On to the next mystery - methinks.

I do enjoy the premise of the story. And I was willing to read a book that was a bit lack luster in the writing. It felt closer to that of fanfic. The way of telling rather than showing what the characters were feeling gets distracting. What I could not get past was the horrible bodice busting sex scenes. They detracted from the story and made the characters so one dimensional. They are far too old to behave like children going through puberty where every time they look at one another they go into spasms. I was really hoping that Nate would stay in the tower so I wouldn't have to skip past as many smut scenes.

I've read the first two books of this series and it's good so far. Admittedly one can see the final scene, of snatching Queen V's collar off, at least a mile away, but still the tension build-up to the finale was handled well. Thing is, I like Nate and Cara, but I don't love either one of them, and really don't care if they live or die. Author Exley's world-building is very good, but the series isn't a "must read" for me.

I purchased this book from Amazon, upon the suggestion of the author, after lamenting that I had not seen it available in local bookstores.This book offers food for the soul - as it blends the technical with the experiential in its lucid exposition of the universal art of music.Here, analogy and humor balance with science to evoke a deeper cognizance of the varied facets of this multi-cultural form of human experience.Here too, the universal power of the 'Divine Art' of Music is well-expressed, so that it may be passed on - in the tradition of the 'bards' of every age.Any musical novice, journeyman, or master would benefit from the experience that this book offers. I did not expect such a heavy book! 8.5 x 11 in. and 2lbs.! A lifetime study; but thus far I have gotten a couple of very good ideas I am working on: rhythmic rather than harmonic, strangely. I'm trying to wrap my head around the numerical and verbal concepts of stuff I know and practice to some extent in my music. Whether I can stick with it is another matter. But as little as I've gotten into this book, I do feel that it will be helpful, and once I've worked through it a bit, it will be a reference for as long as I'm involved in music.

Mathiew really helps you get into your bones what all the tuning systems are about and, in process, I really got some deep insights into a variety of scales.

Having just discovered this book, i wish i would have known of it when it was first published in 1997. While i've since done my own searching, exploring and mapping of the landscape of music and coming to 'discover on my own' and use many of the same outlooks, devices, techniques and views this work so beautifully and comprehensively presents, it would have saved me a tremendous amount of time.This is the single best book i know towards enlightening anyone aspiring to understand, orient, unify with and create within the world of sounds we experience as music.Highly recommended.
