He accepts with grace that he has been formally trained and that others are capable of dealing with the knowledge if put in an accessible fashion.

R.C. Sproul does a fantastic job of offering a very deep topic, such as philosophy and apologetics, at a lay-persons level. Not to say that it is without its deep points where necessary, but rather, this isn't an exhaustive approach to apologetics. I offer four stars as there were points that I felt could have been stated more clearly or should have been dealt with a little more thoroughly. Also, considering the depth and breadth of the topic he attempts to cover, a quality summary at the end of each chapter might have helped the reader recall the discussion and possibly clarified the authors approach.

I listened to this audiobook. It was a very clear and stimulating rendition of a challenging subject. I ain to buy the print version and use it as a resource. Our faith makes sense and we do not need to be intimidated by fast-talking atheists but we do need to communicate what and why we believe. This book will help you do that in a calm, reasonable way.

I enjoy R.C. Sproul, but I think he sometimes forgets the audience reading his books, although the information was incredible, it should probably be explained in simpler terms the average reader might need examples of what he is discussing.Just need it to be easier fr the average man to apply and learn, because it has great information, just not user friendly.

Sproul explains many of the philosophies, and errors in logic, that are prominent today. He applies these to errors in attacking Christianity. He is intelligent and non-confrontational. If you want to know more about defending Christianity, this is a good introductory book.

WARNING. I ordered the kindle version and was offered a discount to purchase Kindle and audio at the same time. I never received the audio and had to purchase it for full price. But R.C's book is worth the money and so much more. I'll just be more careful when Amazon offers me a bargain.

When he does die her mother does what she can to keep the farm going because the farm had been in the family for generations and she wanted to keep it up for her eldest Victor, who has left to go work in a lumber mill. Her next oldest brother, Clarence Wayne, or Babe, who is half of the twins with the other half being Silvaney, is evil, while Silvaney suffered brain damage after a childhood illness is quite simple and loves to traipse about in the forest. Her older sister Beulah dreams of something better, while Ethel is a born talker and saleswoman. Garnie her younger brother is known as the preacher due to his obsession with revivals. Her mother came from a well off family and married for love and was cut off from that family when she did so. Red hair and tempers run in the family.Beulah becomes pregnant with the town boy Curtis Bostick's child, but whose mother won't let him have anything to do with her. So Beulah has the child and names it John Arthur after their father who was being buried the day the child was born. The description of the funeral and burial rites for a mountain person at this time are very interesting. For example, you are buried in your burial quilt with coins on your eyes.When Ivy's mother cannot keep the farm going they pack up and move into a bed and breakfast run by Geneva. At this time it's only Ivy and Garnie, because circumstance has led the others in different directions. Garnie come under the influence of a corrupt revival preacher and Ivy at the age of fourteen becomes pregnant, just as she is offered the opportunity to further her education at a nice school in Boston. Now she has to drop out of school to raise her child. When her mother dies, Ivy and Rose go to live with Beulah and it is there that she meets up again with Oakley Fox the first boy she kissed back on Star Mountain. But there's a much more interesting man who has her eye now.This book is told through a series of letters written to various people in Ivy's life. The unusual thing about this book is that there are no response letters. You are dependent on what Ivy says in her letters to figure out what has happened or is being said by the other person. Also, the language of the book is quite written quite backwoods at the beginning but it improves as her education improves across the novel. It is quite creatively done. Ivy is quite the firecracker and grabs life by the horns and does not let go. She makes mistakes but she does not necessarily regret them. I fell in love with this spirited character who reaches out to the reader connects with you in a very basic way. My first thought was that this book is going nowhere. Then I thought of writer Lee Smith having to remember the misspellings and her computer page must have lots of red lines under words. As I read on, I got used to 'Ivy's' style. (It did improve.) The novel is in the form of letters written by Ivy to friends and family over a 70 year period of her life from her small West Virginia home. It includes the history of the 20th Century; the depression, world wars up to the seventies and the characters who were all part of these events. It was an enjoyable book getting to know Ivy, her kin, friends, lovers and enemies through the letters.

Such a beautifully written story. Ivy Rowe, grows up in Appalachia poor but with a passion for reading, language and the beauty of nature. Beginning in the early 1900's, she tells her story through a series of heartfelt letters to various acquaintances and her long-dead sister.Through grinding poverty, heartbreak, death of loved ones, and, most of all; passionate love for her husband as well as other men, but mostly for her children, Ivy will grow in your heart and mind.I loved this book so much. This wild and intelligent, passionate and curious girl grows into a strong and woman, sometimes passive, mostly feisty.Please read it! This is one of my all time most unforgettable literary characters.

It's unbelievable how much detailed information is in this book. The organization of the book is very convenient and there are page references throughout the book to the topics being discussed. This makes it extremely easy to either read the book from front to back or to pick out a narrow topic and read about it. My only complaints are that I wish it had more color photos and a better map, but the information is more important than photos anyway. This book will definitely make planning your trip to Crete a lot easier. And it's much, much better than the Lonely Planet Crete guide. Lonely Planet publishes some great books, but its Crete guide is not one of them.

We used this book to plan our honeymoon to Crete (without ever having been to Greece before). It had great suggestions for places to visit and what to see. We used it quite a bit and could rely on it mostly being accurate. There was one hike that we couldn't quite find just through the book's descriptions, but we did a different one instead. We would highly recommend it!

At first I thought this book has too much detail and I will never use it, but now I find that is the first book I go to. I lived in Iraklion 40 years ago and I am planning my first return next April. Crete has changed a great deal, and this book is helping me to find the 'old Crete' that I remember. Rough Guide may not be helpful if you have 2 or 3 days in Crete, but I am planning an exended stay and this book has the information I want to plan my return visit.

This book has been very helpful with regard to places to activities, hotels, and restaurants. It's my first Rough Guide.

As I expected, good! Somewhat hard language for us nonbritish.

My mother was born and raised in Crete and I have plenty of relatives there so I have visited the island often and have gotten to know it extremely well. There is almost NOTHING I don't know about this island. I have been using The Rough Guide in helping me to explore this island since at least 1996. The edition I used in 2005, which had been recently published, contains pretty much the same information and the same descriptions as this edition, published in 2013. Unique, unusually stunning and creative picture book. Every page is a wonder and joy. Incredible biography of this little known artist. Perfect for classroom use or a child's library.

Not exactly a subject for very young children in the first place. To start by saying, "Louise was raised by a river" is like saying that I was raised by wolves because they were nearby? Surprised the editors didn't rephrase. Besides which it isn't accurate. In order to present Louise Bourgeois to very young readers it's necessary to redact 90% of her life! Why choose this subject but on the other hand I'm glad her name is brought to the attention of others.Her artistic production is one long art therapy session. Filled with angst and provocative images. Obsessed with anger, resentment, fear, retribution, gender difficulties, fleeing the Holocaust, death of sibling, on and on. I agree with the other two-star review. Her ingenious use of cloth and loving use of her own clothing in later years stands above any fiber art that I construct. BUT.... she's something to take in very small doses.This book invites perusal by all ages -- somewhere a few pages in it loses a sense of wonder through dense, crowded images somewhat irrelevant to the life of this artist. That's why I feel snookered. Kind of bewildered and slimed.Maybe view in the library first and/or buy a grown up version of her life if it's information, inspiration you desire.The Fabric Works is a much better source. More expensive but accurate. You could sit with a child and turn those pages together? Grow into the book together so that by the time it's a teenager next to you? The book itself is a good friend for life.

I love everything about this book. There are a couple bits that I am not sure I want to read to my almost-5 yr old, but overall this is lovely. I bought it for myself but I guess I'll let some children look at it too :)

This book is beautifully written and really expresses the magic and scale of Louise Bourgeois's art and the impact it has on viewers. It is perfectly illustrated to bring her story to life. My five year old daughter loves it just as much as I do. I bought it for her birthday as a special gift as Louise Bourgeois is her namesake. â¤ï¸

This is a children's book, so some of the more unpleasant episodes in Louise Bourgeoise's life are not mentioned. Pictures are nice. I learned about textile work she did in the last part of her life.

I read this book at Bart's Books in Ojai, CA. I don't know why I didn't buy it, but regretted it later, and I don't live there. So I just ordered this and had it sent to my friend. It is illustrated beautifully, and the beautiful story is based on a French woman who actually lived.

Gorgeous book and lovely language. My six-year-old who is a high level reader still adores picture books, and I'm always trying to find ones that are substantive and educational. Neither of us knew a thing about Louise, but this book was a great entry. Highly recommended!

Very beautiful book but dark story for young children. Also rather metaphorical for a child. Iâ€™d say this is one of those â€˜adult children booksâ€™The illustration style is beautiful and would look gorgeous on a coffee table!
